Classwork

What I learned this year was the meaning of lots of words, how to use a lot of literary devices, how to read a story with actually finding the tone by using diction. How well is the part that I would say a 75% because yet I know it very well I get confused with syntax and diction. I know from self reliance that essay gave me the most because that's when it clicked about using diction from us finding quotes and telling each other the meaning.  Anyone can know from just reading the quotes and use diction to find the tone

For the Final

Ideas of what to review for the final can be the stories from the start of the year that mostly everyone forgot about such as Richard Cory, Earth on turtles back, young goodman brown and the pedestrian.

SOMETHING INTERESTING

Something interesting is a question. How is Donald Trump our president and how did he get the elect over a more qualified person that has real experience dealing with foreign problems.

Jimmy Santiago Baca

Another thing that Baca made was the movie Blood in Blood out. Yes you can say I'm taking this post easy by just talking about a movie that i probably haven't watched but it's not just a movie for me or for many people from Santa Maria. I mean things by this such as that this movie is about Mexicans and many many people have seen this movie from Santa Maria. It gives everyone in the class more attention to Baca if they knew that he wrote the movie since it's a favorite for some they'll suspect that everything he writes will be just as great as the movie. Also since the movie is about rivalry of gangs maybe some people can even relate to it. From Blood in Blood out to immigrants in our land you can see that Baca has a main focus from representing struggles and life from Mexicans.

Immigrants in our land

"We are given shots and doctors ask questions "
" we came here to get away from False promises"
" I look down and see new immigrants coming in "
" some will just stick around and talk about how good the old world is "

About the poem
The story is about immigrants expecting the (United States) to be a free country and to have everything they've wanted as in a good future and expecting a new life.  The downfall of this is that they come in the country expecting a job that sees their talents but yet they all live in a bad place and work in the rough jobs like in the fields or just hard labor. So he explains some might make it out, some people will become gangsters and then the old people will stay and say that the old world was better.

Meet jimmy Santiago

When I read the story I thought it was going to be a simple story about going to college, what surprised me was that it was about a man that is made of rattlesnake poison and goes through lots of changes through his life. Some changes can be from being a drug dealer to going to prison to helping the youth that work up the baby to having workshops at the church and having teachers look at him as a speaker for their class. Also the book that he wrote can be a key factor in the change in his life.

Emerson's child

A way  you can explain  Emersons self-reliance to a 10 year old is by getting some quotes from the story that stand out to you and have more of an impact from the words Emerson is saying. The parts that stood out to me was how he talked about leaders and changed and how we as a society desperately need a change for the better,  especially since the  election not that long ago.

" Do not look for yourself outside"   a way I can explain this as simple as possible is saying that Emerson wants you to look inside yourself to find the best possible solution before  reaching for the outside . Quotes like these from the story have come together to tell you as the reader to be confident in yourself and don't look to the outside.

"Trust thyself , every heart vibrates to that iron string"  what Emerson is saying is really the first two words,   Trust thyself or r in simple terms for the youth  can be have trust in yourself and have confidence in what  you say or do. The part that says every heart vibrates to that iron string can be elaborated from when  he says every heart to we all have the same feelings toward something while the iron string can symbolize the toughness of your sayings .

"For nonconformtity the world whips you with its  displeasure  and therefore a man  must know how to estimate a sour face" " let a man know his worth, and keep things under his feet "
I put both  these quotes together since how they both connect to the man and his  worth In the world . The first quote is saying that the world is going to give you pain and displeasure so you have to learn to keep a poker face while the second connects to it by a mans worth and don't let him do things by keeping  it under his feet so he can't see it.

To sum  Self -Reliance up  Emerson has been saying believe in yourself and don't be afraid to speak up for what you think,  your going to have a lot of pain in your life but to keep on going , don't look for what's outside but what's inside that you already have, and finally about leaders in the world and how they tell us what we can or can't do. Self -Reliance is a perfect essay to read in this time of the year since the election andi it might give people ideas that 'll help out society overcomes obstacles that they are now facing.

AN EARTH-SHATTERING FART

What I got from the story "A sound of thunder" was that one mistake that you made in the past can lead up to many consequences in the future. From reading that he killed the butterfly which totally switched up the English language and change the whole world around him from changing who the president was to the bad guy of the 2. Also how his mistake from getting out of the path had the result of him getting shot when he went back to the future. The best part for me was when Bradbury was describing the dinosaur and Eckels saying get him out of there and Lesperance continuing to stay  gives the tone of fear in the story while having the mystery of will they make it out of there alive. It's the best part from wondering if they will die or not since throughout out the story they've been saying that some people on safari trips have not came back alive. My opinion on the story though is that it's basically giving a message to learn throughout the whole story in little parts.

My Aeries

So my progress report came out to be a B+, that's understandable since even though I came to class and started and participated a lot in class, also did almost all the journals that I was there for but I can see that my blog was not up to date at the time. As you can see now my blog is up to date and I'm putting something up at least once a day even sometimes without homework. I still think we need library dates so we can all go and check out books for literature analysis.

EMERSON FOR THE YOUNG BUCK

What I learned from Self-Reliance is multiple things, such as that we have leaders in the world that control us and tell us our rights. I learned that you shouldn't be afraid to be yourself and not just half of yourself but your full self and don't mind what others think. I learned that Emerson believes that infants or morons are geniuses. I learned that the world is going to give you a hard time but to fight through it and keep going on. Another thing and the part that got me the most is when Emerson believed that the youth has a voice and a right in the world. Also about the evil and devil stuff that Emerson was relating to either heaven or hell or the good and bad in people and society. The last thing is that don't look for help outside yourself and mind and how many of his things are talking about how society is today even though Self-Reliance was written many years ago.

EMERSON SAID IT

"But these impulses maybe from below not from above"
" trust thyself: every heart vibrates to that iron string "
"It loves not realities & creators, but names & customs "
" for noncomfortity the world whips you with its displeasure & therefore a man must know how to estimate a sour face "
" do not look for yourself outside "
What these quotes from Emerson mean are how you are to believe in yourself and even though the world brings trouble to your life to keep going on and believe. They came up in the Socratic seminar because lots of people think like Emerson and believe the things he says and that they should follow from him and trust in themselves since everyone had quotes similar to each other about relying on yourselves and people think about the social problems that the world has of how people are constantly trying to be someone they are not.

LETTER TO A MENTOR DRAFT1

Dear Albert Einstein,

My big question is Why does the sun rising and sun setting determine when our day starts and day ends? From your research and contributions to the whole world and how we still see the steps and major findings you found how would you see this question as a concern of how we as people just learned to follow the things people said about the world that can be changed. Why have 24 hours in a day and 365 days in a year, Maybe you can answer my question just by saying that we're just following what people from decades ago thought that every time the Earth rotates is a day or maybe they just thought every time the sun comes up is another day that we can say just to keep hold of when is it in the year.

                                                                                                                          From, Andrew Clark

Socratic seminar

Today's class came meaningful to a few on how we talked about quotes from Emerson's Self-Reliance  because of the meanings that it sent to people such as people only showing half of themselves because they're afraid of what people are going to think. Also finding that Emerson was basically describing social life today and especially in the class.

New question

How would Emerson and the passage Self-reliance impact society if it was published today?

Author in progress

What did you do well?  - The thing that I thought I did well was understanding his concept about how  the youth is involved and we have a voice.
What do you need to work on?    -The thing I need to work on is finding what his main message is and what is he really trying to say in simple terms.
Other than that Emerson is a "genius " by how he describes infants or morons to be a genius.

Complaints and ideas for class

We all know 5th period has that group that talks and doesn't focus, maybe that group is giving the idea of this class is not important and we can just talk to the others and maybe a reason why some or most people don't do the work assigned. Also for literature analysis assignments maybe we should have library days when we go check out books so we actually have something to read because I doubt   Anyone goes to the library by themselves or has a library in their house.  Thoughts for the class can be for teachers to change their tone of voice and way of treating bad students who don't care. Also a problem for me is figuring out how to put music on the cd assigned to us.

IM-SELF RELIANT

So far just from hearing and reading a bit of Emerson as a class I've gotten from Emerson that I should be myself and try not to be anyone else and also that us as a youth has a voice in society so we shouldn't be shut out because we are the future generation so we will control the world in a matter of years.  Emerson says " every heart vibrates to that iron string" I don't know if I'm getting the message from him correct but when he says heart I'm guessing it's having to do something with love and emotion or how he is portraying his tone in Self-Reliance. His use of big words though is a part that I'm not very strong on so I would have to research the word. Emerson also used the word Devil in the story which I'm confused if he's talking about evil or religion. When he talks about doing it for himself and not for anyone else can seems like his theme in Self reliance which I think is don't try to impress anyone else and do things for you because you want them. If Emerson saw society how it is today I think he'll be ashamed because yes you can be anyone you want and look however you want to look with surgery and people are all trying to someone that they're not to impress and not doing it for themselves. Even after saying all this I am not getting what Emerson is really trying to say.

MAPPING MY MIND

The reason why I did what I did on the map was to move the more important matters into a space where everyone can see so it can be more of a help. This would help me understand Emerson more by putting some vocabulary more close so we can understand what self reliance is saying. Youth has a voice is a big thing that I got from Emerson.

RESPECT MY AUTHORITY

An authority figure that best describes me being self out loud can be some of my teachers. I would say my AVID teacher because he is the most influential person to me. Since he is My AVID teacher he always influences me to do better than I already am doing and also influences to go to a university. Authority figures like police just anger people because they don't know what they're doing and don't have a influential part on people's lives

The Pedestrian

The inciting incident for the story is when he get pulled over by the police that wasn't even real cops.

MISTAKES FOR PRESIDENT

I saw that they were talking about what's popular in the world. I was expecting more of a facts and ideas of what to do as the next president but then they were just saying a bunch of bullshit about each other. How come they don't think of encouraging presidential ideas instead of just lies that they did in the past just like email scandals and taxes. This just shows what the new world has done to government and for power.

Thoughts on The pedestrian

So far in the book The pedestrian I have a feeling that Leonard is an awkward person that tries to talk to everyone he encounters. He's the type of person to look at every detail in life as it goes by.

I have done over 10 hours of community service for the salud carbajal election for congress. I have seen face to face with Bernie sanders even though he's probably full of bullshit ideas that will never work. I have played sports in high school. I am taking advanced placement US history, honors chemistry and math analysis as a junior. I take care of my dad by myself and managing to do all my academic work and succeeding still academically.

AERIES

I think from my test and grade I deserve a high B or an A. I did what the assignment said and described the difference between both stories on tone and them and I tried using syntax and diction while writing the whole essay. I had the definition of all the vocabulary words on my notes so I know what to write and how to write the story how you wanted. I don't know if length was the best but compared to other people my length was actually good by going over one page.

The Earth On Turtles Back

My response to this short story can be summarized to just everyone working together as a team and bringing each other out the hole that some people are trapped in.
